The German Shelter Now team grieves. International Director Taubmann: “Norbert Blüm visited Afghanistan with us.
A few hours ago, Shelter Now heard of the death of its honorary member, former Federal Minister of Labor Dr. Norbert Blüm.
“The news of his death shocked and deeply affected us,” says Shelter Now Germany Managing Director Udo Stolte. “We knew him as a man of integrity, extremely committed and benevolent”, Stolte paid tribute to the politician who died at the age of 84.
“Norbert Blüm visited our projects in Pakistan and Afghanistan shortly after the re-start of Shelter Now in Afghanistan in 2002,” emphasized the International Director of Shelter Now, Georg Taubmann. “He played with the children in the Afghan villages, dressed in the typical Afghan clothes and literally transformed himself into an Afghan in his behavior.
“He was a real role model and his death is a great loss – not only for us Shelter people, but for all of Germany,” says Udo Stolte. “Our sympathy and prayers go out to his wife and all his relatives.
